Tacos are the heart and soul of Mexican cuisine. It’s an extremely versatile dish as you can fill them with practically anything, including delicious el Rey del Pulpo octopus. Here’s our recipe for octopus tacos.

INGREDIENTS (2 servings):

2 el Rey del Pulpo cooked octopus tentacles.

1 package corn tortillas.

2 avocados.

1 red onion.

1 lime.

1 tomato.

1 fresh red chili pepper (optional).

Fresh cilantro, minced.

Olive oil.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • First, make avocado pico de gallo. Dice the avocado, red onion and tomato into chunks. Mix them together in a bowl, with a splash of lime juice, minced fresh cilantro and salt.
  • Slice the octopus into small pieces and sauté in a frying pan with a little olive oil.
  • In a separate frying pan without oil, heat the corn tortillas for 1 minute on each side. Place them on a dish towel and cover to keep warm.
  • To assemble the octopus taco, fold the tortilla in half, spoon the octopus filling inside and top with avocado pico de gallo. If you’d like to spice it up, add a dash red chili pepper.

 

HOW TO PEEL AN AVOCADO

There are times when removing the flesh from an avocado can seem like a potential safety hazard.

Here’s how to do it safely and easily.

First, cut the avocado in half and gently twist each half to pull them apart. Tap the pit with the heel of a knife, using enough force so that the blade wedges into the pit. Twist the pit out of the avocado and discard. Next, use a spoon to scoop the flesh out of the skin.

If you like it hot, you can serve tacos with a Mexican sauce such as salsa ranchero or serrano salsa verde. You can find these sauces in many supermarkets.

To drink, serve your octopus tacos with a michelada. It’s the most famous cocktail in Mexico, and it’s made with beer, lime, Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco.
